Braves, Brewers discussing Cain deal

Cain The Braves have expressed interest in acquiring center fielder Lorenzo Cain from the Brewers, reports's Mark Bowman.

Atlanta is in dire need of outfielders and Cain would slide right into center field and could then shove Nate McLouth and Joe Mather onto the bench as Martin Prado is gearing up to play left.

However, the club is concerned about the shape of Chipper Jones' knee and the possibility Prado may be asked to see significant time at third. Acquiring Cain would give the club the depth to put McLouth and Mather in left.

Milwaukee needs as much pitching as it can get its hands on as evidenced by the Shaun Marcum deal in which it dealt top hitting prospect Brett Lawrie. If Cain was dealt, it would be for such a pitcher, which Atlanta has in spades. The Brewers would have to move forward with Carlos Gomez in center in such a deal, and that may not be palatable after Gomez's poor season in 2010 that saw him lose his starting job to Cain.

Both sides have talked, but don't seem to be pushing to complete a deal at the moment.

Braves, Brewers discussing Cain deal

Agreed, we need to keep Cain, Gomez is a worthless pile of $h!t.  The only way I would agree to a trade Cain is if the Atlanta pitcher is already a young quality starter.  Please Doug keep Cain and cut Gomez.

I'd want a higher quality pitcher than Marcum for Lorenzo Cain. I could see the Brewers making the deal if they can't move Fielder, move Hart to center and put Gamel and Braun at the corners and then if things don't work out by midseason, trade Fielder to someone for a center field prospect. The Crew's rotation would then be: Yo; Wolff; the pitcher in the Cain trade; Marcum and Narveson. An upgrade from Doug Davis, Suppan, Bush.

How about both Gomez and the gut they got from the reds to the braves for one of there young pitchers.  I do not see the benefits of trading guys we develope to be traded when we make trades for top prospects from other teams that do not develope for us.

It would be better if they traded for Matt Cain instead. You can never have too much quality pitching.

Good OBP, above average speed, good defensive skills in center, and from Valdosta, GA.
Hell Yeah! Sounds like the lead off bat we've been missing!
Go get him Mr. Wren!
