Phillies decline Romero option

Posted on: October 26, 2010 4:49 pm

The Phillies, as expected, have declined their $4.5 million option for next year on oft-injured reliever J.C. Romero, and will pay him a $250,000 buyout instead.

Romero made 60 appearances this season with a 3.68 ERA and walked 7.1 batters per nine innings. He missed time with elbow and back injuries after missing most of the previous season due to injuries and a 50-game drug suspension. Romero could return to the Phillies, who are in need of left-handed relief, at a lower rate.
