Justin Morneau Justin Morneau is unlikely to return to the Twins in time for the regular season, and the postseason is doubtful as well.

"I don't see how it can possibly happen for him," manager Ron Gardenhire told Phil Mackey of ESPN 1500 . Morneau suffered a concussion earlier this season, last playing July 7 of a season shaping up to be MVP-caliber.

In 348 plate appearances, Morneau had 18 home runs and a .345/.437/.618 line anchoring the middle of the Twins' order.

Gardenhire did say Morneau has been improving as of late, but time is simply running out.

The Twins have moved forward by slotting Michael Cuddyer in first base, shifting from right field. Jason Kubel and Delmon Young have seen increased playing time in the outfield as well while Jim Thome adds to his Hall of Fame career by receiving the bulk of starts at designated hitter.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Vikingsia20-  Thank you.  You made some really good points.  With Morneau for me it's frustration more than anything, because he's always injured/sucks at the end of the season when we need him most.  Gardy is probably telling him to not play. (then again gardy keeps people out of the lineup over a hangnail)   The team chemistry thing is duly noted, and I definitely agree, and yeah he could be rusty.  The only reason I brought up Obama was the fact that I am outnumbered here.  I was also outnumbered in that regard too.  It was a landslide.  And the masses were wrong.  That was my point with that.  I'm going to favorite you now.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Wow here I thought for a second that this could come to a peaceful end,  and then another idiot jumps into the fray.  Why are you so great because you are "top 1k?"  You pity anyone close to me?  Wow.  Glad a sports thread could get you to feel that way about someone who you don't know.  Again it shows me what a great world we live in.  Twinsfan22, I wasn't going to say anything anymore but now that someone else threw his stupid opinion in here I will say that I questioned Justin Morneau's toughness, insulted him by calling him a pansy.  So that leads to a barrage of insults on me.  None of you are related to Justin Morneau, so back off, and once again, yes you did all start it.  I'm only defending myself.  That's all I've been doing this whole time.  I'm only as vicious with my words as the person is who attacks me, so far I've been threatened to receive a concussion (by you) been told I have no job, and been told that the people close to me are pitied (and other things, but I'm not gonna go back and read through all of it)  All over Justin Morneau?  Wow.  You all act like I slept with your wives or something.  I promise it will be ok everyone, the world will go on.  I can value a respectful opinion, because if you notice I haven't jumped on anyone who's just said their piece, without directly insulting me.  I promise everyone on this board, because I know I am highly outnumbered, that if you can say your peace respectfully witout insulting me I will maybe say one more thing (about how I feel about Justin Morneau only), maybe not, but I will shut up.  But if you can't do that, then I will keep going.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't Torii Hunter get into a fight in the clubhouse with Morneau?  The reason for the fight had to do with toughness.  Hunter seemed to think Morneau was a little lacking in the toughness category.  Torri may have been on to something.  Don't you think?

Why do you keep talking about voting for Obama?  What does that have to do with the discussion?  I don't like Obama either.  I didn't vote for Obama either.  Personally, I didn't much care for McCain either, because I actually like to think for myself instead of along party lines.  With that being said, It doesn't have to look severe, to be severe.  Remember the Daytona 500 where Dale Earnhardt died.  Most people thought that the accident wasn't that severe, but considering he died, it was.

A knee to the head can do a good job of creating concussions.  Concussions end careers, Larson.  And since the Twins are playing well right now anyways, why rush him back?  If he isn't 100% from the injury, why start him and cost the team some games.

Finally, injuries happen, sometimes you can't prevent it.  Fluke events happen.  It sometimes happens to some of us in unexpected ways.  No matter how good the athlete is, they make mistakes.  Perhaps their footing is just off.  Perhaps the other player is positioned in the wrong place.  Earlier you said that if you are conditioned well, then you can prevent injuries, tell me how could Joe Theismann prevent his injury from Lawrence Taylor?  Granted that was a much bigger hit, there still is nothing that could be done on Theismann's part to prevent it.  To put it bluntly sometimes @@@@ happens.  Sometimes injuries or accidents are worse than they look.  Sometimes injuries or accidents are better than they look.  That is just the way life works sometimes.

Is it possible that Morneau is milking it?  Yes.  Is it likely?  No.  Honestly, I think Gardenhire is telling him to not play.  Gardenhire knows he may not be 100%.  He knows that his team is very hot right now, and has a shot at home field advantage.  Why do anything to mess that up?  Why bring him back before he is better?  Why disrupt team chemistry?  Why bring him back when you don't absolutely have to bring him back?

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

Its terrible news...but the way the Twins have stepped up without him gives hope for our playoff run.  Thome is the man.  Hopefully we will see the big Canadian next season!  Win Twins!

Concussion == Brain Damage == DH?

My first reaction was Morneau must be some kind of pansy.  When you stop to think however, how can any player want to sit on the sidelines while his team is in an exiting playoff run?

Then I saw some more info on concussion.  Every concussion is brain damage.  Now I feel sorry for a player who would love to be with his team, but can't because of such an injury.

However, I do see another reason for the DH! There's less possibility for someone who has had such injury have a reoccurence.

no dont change your "minds"  because you obviously have "minds" problems.

making fun of your miscues on the keyboard isn't going to prove a point.

stating that you voted for mccain is the dumbest thing ive ever heard on a sports forum?

sidney rice would love to be out on the field.  so would morneau.

You Ma;am!  Have never been part of ANY sports organization, and realize how much it sucks to be sitting out.

ESPECIALLY when your team is WINNING.

There is no such thing as "milking" an injury... Its the most retarded thing I have ever heard, and along with everyone else on the board.  Your point is clearly a bad opinion at best.  It seems to be more built up frustration with your personnel life and other miscue's in your life.

Morneau unlikely to play again in 2010

*change my mind.

And for the guy who said I have no job, don't ever speak like you know me.  Ever.  You don't know jack about me.  Like I said, I have 2 jobs.  I'm in shape and I can do sit ups all day without stopping.  You are probably some fatty sitting by your computer with a donut.  It's amazing how my opinion about a player can spark so much hatred and negativity.  Seriously the world isn't going to end because I think Morneau is milking his injury.  Get a grip people.  I will defend myself all day, I don't have anything better to do, and I have the computer all night at work.  But then again I shouldn't have to, because you should be more mature than to insult simply because I don't agree.  Yeah you all are fighting me, but if you look, I've been constant with my opinion.  I haven't wavered.  Even in the face of all this.  I won't waver, so you might as well just stop.  Either stop, or argue intelligently, that is all I ask.  It's pretty simple really.  Again, the world isn't going to end because I think Justin Morneau is milking his injury.
