LaRue says concussion will end his career

Jason LaRue Cardinals catcher Jason LaRue told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the concussion he suffered at the feet of Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto will end his career.

"I'm done," LaRue told the Post-Dispatch 's Joe Strauss. "It's a simple decision."

LaRue was kicked in the head during a fracas on Aug. 10. Cueto served a seven-game suspension for his actions. LaRue's cost was much higher.

LaRue estimates he's had "close to 20" concussions in his athletic career, dating back to high school football. He said riding in cars and watching TV have caused him "sensations that he likened to seasickness" as well as headaches and nausea. He said hasn't improved since the incident.

Apparently LaRue had contemplated legal action against Cueto, but has since decided against doing so.

"I was going to retire on my own terms," LaRue said. "It's unfortunate that the blow that decided it came from someone kicking me in the head with spikes. I wouldn't say I would change things if you could rewrite history. They say things happen for certain reasons. In this case, I couldn't tell you why. Does it suck that my career is over because Johnny Cueto started kicking me in the head? Yes, it sucks.

"I expected to walk away when I felt it was right. The bottom line: it's unfortunate."

LaRue will join his team in Pittsburgh on Monday to spend the final roadtrip with his teammates, as well as seeing a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh.

LaRue says concussion will end his career

"While I think Cueto was wrong for what he did if you think LaRue was on teh ground getting kicked."  Dang enter key.  Should end with "then you are sadly mistaken."

LaRue says concussion will end his career

While I think Cueto was wrong for what he did if you think LaRue was on teh ground getting kicked.

KaRue did a mid-section tackle in full pads and continue to push Cueto into the netting while Carpenter was trying everything he could to get in a chicken punch.  It was at that point that Cueto starting kicking because the only other thing he could do was take the beating.  LaRue's head was at middle body level when he got kicked, plain and simple.

So don't give us this nonsense about "How was LaRue shoving him into the fence if he was on the ground getting kicked?"  If you are asking that question then you NEVER saw the incident or you are obviously extremely biased.

In either event, your own comments haver rendered your opinions 'null and void' as it's obvious you have no idea what you are talking about.

LaRue says concussion will end his career

I can see why none of you have rankings on here, your all full of senseless nonsense. Why are you making excuses for a guy that stomped a head with metal cleats? How was LaRue shoving him into the fence if he was on the ground getting kicked? It was a chicken sh move. He intentionally stomped on a guys head too. I can't believe that you would make excuses for a guy because he is your pitcher.. Same kind of people that coach the 3rd grade team my son just played and taught their players to poke kids eyes.  BJC.. you know so much about this I see.. so was he like fighting for his life pinned against the backstop? Or trying to send a message because his catcher thought he needed to mouth off to the batter for taking his sweet time at the plate.  HOW MANY fights happen every year.. and I can't think of ONE in the 20+ years I have been watching baseball where somebody stomped another players head with spikes. That would be like a football player beating another with a helmet.. there are certain things you have available that you just don't use. I mean for real, how many batters club the pitcher with the bat for being hit.. or pitchers actually hit a player in the head for retaliation (although some do try to scare them). It's like an unwritten law.

Haynesworth wasn't trying to defend himself as he was pinned against a brick wall, he intentionally stomped on the guy with the INTENT to do harm.  Very different situation.

LaRue says concussion will end his career

man you cincy fans are retarded lol you can't even understand half the article.  he's had over 20 concussions in his life but, what it was saying is since this one that he got from Cueto he gets dizzy riding in the car or watching TV, lol there wasn't a pre-existing condition, it's not like the guy has been playing dizzy all year.  and you act like Cueto was the only one backed up against the net, believe carpenter was too, as well as like 10 other guys, but no other player, Cardinals or Reds started kicking like a lil b!tch, lol and trying to justify the kicking just proves how ignorant you are.  lol there were literally 50+ guys out there, none of which did any kicking, except Cueto..... because he's a b!tch

Cueto kicking pressed against the net looked very "sissy", especially with spikes on.  I had a guy with spikes stomp me covering a play at 2 and I still have a hole in my leg.

Obviously you're a Cincy homer, but kicking people to the head with spikes on is chicken-shit - period.

I am no fan of the Cards, but it is unfortunate a dude decides to leave the game because he got head-kicked with a pair of steels.  He obviously deserves to be there more than many, regardless of his stats.

LaRue says concussion will end his career

Typical LaRue. He's been a PUS ever since he came up with the Reds. He's been whining for years because he thinks he's better than he is. He was probably going to retire anyway because he was probably tired of being a role player when he was CLEARLY the best catcher in the majors.

I like the 10 world series trophies comment. Not sure how that is relavent to this story though. Oh wait it's not. But you feel you have to say that because the team you follow is not having a good year and you aren't smart enough to think of anything else. Those comments always make me laugh because I start wondering on what level you were responsible for any of those championships. How many lifetime career hits do you have? How many scoreless innings have you pitched? These comments are absurd because when you think about it EVERY person can look at the teams in a sport, pick the one that has the most championships and decide to become a fan, then brag about how "their" team is the best in history even if they suck that year. BUT for the most part you are a fan because you grew up in or around the city where that team is located. So the reason you are a fan of that team, in most cases, is because your parents decided to shag in that TV market. So if you are going to take credit for your part in the 10 WS wins you should also take credit for your part in your own conception.
