Top Mets pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia left a game Wednesday against the Pirates after being visited by a trainer in the third inning.
The Mets did not immediately announce the reason Mejia, who had thrown 42 pitches and not allowed a hit, was forced to leave. Mejia missed six weeks of the minor-league season after experiencing a strain in the back of his pitching shoulder.
Mejia was relieved by Raul Valdes.
UPDATE: According to the Mets' TV broadcast, Mejia left with an acute strain in the muscle in the back of the shoulder and will have an MRI.
