The Cardinals aren't eliminated yet, but at least one player sounds resigned to their fate.

"I don’t even care really," shortstop Brendan Ryan told FOXSportsMidwest.com on Monday after St. Louis lost 5-1 to the Cubs. "I’m speaking for myself. I don't even care. I’m just trying to do my job ... I’m not even worrying about [the standings] right now."

The Reds beat Arizona to extend their lead in the National League Central to seven games. The Cardinals' chance of winning the division is at about 3.6 percent.

"Forget it, you know? Just win as many as we can and wherever we’re at, we’re at. I still feel like I’m new to the whole thing but living and dying with every inning, checking the scoreboard and all that, I don’t even look anymore. Just forget it. Just assume [the Reds] are going to win."

Sounds like someone needs a hug.

Says the Cubs fan, lol.  Sammy Sosa took steroids, and was caught corking bats.  Now what happened after the cork incident?  The cubs locked MLB out of their facility as they proceeded to get rid of corked bats, so they could claim he "mistakenly grab a bp bat."  This is why the world, not just St. Louis, makes fun of Cubs fans.

Wow, your team chokes in September and all you can do is worry about the Cubs.  You sound like a White Sox fan.  Let's face it.  The Cardinals should have won and will probably win next year.  Cincinnati had a great year.  Give them their due.  The Cardinal culture is one of substance abuse and cheating and excuse making.  All of that comes from one man, LaRussa.

I guess when your team makes the playoffs once every twenty years you have to as much smack as you can while you can...

All those Cardinals are complainers.  Now Pujols has a jammed elbow.  Where'd that one come from.  Since they don't have a chance to win the division they are thinking of every excuse they can... "I don't care"... "Jammed elbow".... whatever.  I can see why Brandon Phillips hates the Cardinals.  because they're babies!!!!!!

Wear it card fans, pull out the kleenex, boo hoo, goo goo, ga ga. Brandon Phillips said it like it is. The cards are crybabies. I love it! Go Reds!!!

i agree. Ryan has never really turned into the "high OBP and flawless defense" guy that they thought he would. But I think from his comments you can tell why. He is pretty immature and not really grasping what it means to be a big leaguer. Maybe he and Colby could be packaged together and sent somewhere for a real shortstop.

I have always like Skip, and if you look at his second half numbers, they are much better than his first half, so maybe there is still hope for him. At least he gives you some versatility, where Ryan does not.

The cards issues don't really come down to Big Mac. The cards issues more come down to having too many immature, inexperienced guys who seem to be more problems in the clubhouse than otherwise known. They need to rebuild around the core "stars" that they have and get rid of some of these guys who just don't get it.

Of course he doesn't care.  He should be the 1st one sent packing!!!  There HAS to be a kid in the minors better than this slap-hitting, error making, waste.  Last night's game was the epitome of why he (and I hate to say it) Schumaker must go.  Taylor made DP and Ryan flips it too soon and Skip flubs it.  I could deal with SOME errors if either one of them could hit.  But, when .270 and an OB% of .300 is what I "HOPE" for then they have to go.  They don't give us speed or defense now.  And as much as I love Big Mac, how is he any better than McRae?  SIGH, I feel like a Cubs fan, except we choked BEFORE the playoffs.
