Mets flip Francoeur to Texas

Jeff Francoeur
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports via Twitter that clubhouse attendants in Atlanta were cleaning out the locker of outfielder Jeff Francoeur after Tuesday's game, which is a pretty good indication he's been moved.

The Rangers were said during the day to be working on a trade for Francoeur, who was unhappy and unproductive as a $5 million fourth outfielder in New York. Though he's batting a miserable .236/.293/.369 overall, he's a much more respectable .278/.355/.412 against left-handed pitching, which could make him marginally valuable as a platoon guy and pinch-hitter. Jorge Cantu, whom they acquired at the deadline, was supposed to give them a boost against lefties but has batted just .211 since the trade.

UPDATE: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram confirms that the Mets are sending Francoeur and cash to Texas in exchange for infielder Joaquin Arias.

Trivia bit: The Rangers acquired Arias as the player to be named later in the Alex Rodriguez trade to the Yankees. The Rangers were given a list of Yankees minor leaguers from which to pick and chose Arias when they could have had Robinson Cano. Oops.

He's done everything Minaya asked for except hit and get on nase at a higher rate than he does.

Don't feel sorry for Met fans or Francoeur, as we'll now get a chance to see Lucas Duda, a solid outfield prospect who hits of raverage and power. The problem with the Mets outfield has been Francoeur's inability to get on base and his terrible streakiness, where he goes on 3-41 binges 2 and 3 times per season. This is a guy who swings at every first pitch below his eyes, no matter how inside or outside the pitch is.

Would you want a guy liek that on your team? He was a mistake acquisition, as Atlanta certainly knew where Francoeur's talents would lead him when they let him go.

This is why Omar Minaya needs go.Off course he let`s Frenchy go,he`s only one of the few Met`s that has done everything he`s been asked to do.Yet players like Castillo still remain,Im not a Met`s fan but they have my sympathy.

So, are the Rangers going to release Jorge Cantu? It's interesting they would get another outfielder when they have more than enough good ones. As for Joaquin Arias, the Rangers have way too many good infielders including Ian Kinsler on the DL, plus Elvis Andrus,Michael Young and Andres Blanco, Arias is the odd man out.

Yeah, lots of teams made mistakes when they made trades...you have to remember who was the GM and owner at the time. Neither one of them had a clue about running a baseball team. Now that we have a baseball man(Nolan Ryan) running the team, things are a lot different.
