Nats' Morgan unhappy with manager

Nyjer Morgan Nyjer Morgan has fired back at manager Jim Riggleman.

"He just basically did a cardinal sin. You don't blast your player in the papers," Morgan told reporters before Monday's game in Miami, including the Washington Post 's Adam Kilgore .

Quick recap of the Morgan situation -- on Saturday he put a hockey-style crosscheck on Cardinals catcher Bryan Anderson and missed the plate. He went back to touch the plate, but was ruled out because Ivan Rodriguez had touched him to guide his return to the plate.

Riggleman said Morgan "did an unprofessional thing" and then benched him Sunday, saying it was so he wouldn't get hit in retaliation.

Morgan wasn't happy with that explanation.
"I guess it was his thought that maybe I shouldn't be in the lineup," Morgan said. "I don't know why. As players, we police ourselves. Maybe, I guess, from how he hit thought it was, I guess he perceived it as some nasty play with the intentions of trying to hurt somebody before coming to me and asking me about the situation, which was very unacceptable. But on my half, I'm not going to go ahead and throw fuel on the fire. I'm going to try to be as professional as I can about the situation. Basically, I thought I should have been in there yesterday.

"I probably knew something was coming. But I know as another player, they're not going to try to intentionally hit me in the [expletive] head. I'm probably one of the league leaders in getting hit by pitches this year.* Getting hit by a pitch, you've got to take your lumps."
Morgan also explained his play on Saturday:
"I don't want to be perceived as a dirty player. It was just an intense play. From what I saw, I saw [Albert] Pujols threw a nice little pump fake. I was going full-speed around third. It was just what I saw. I thought maybe the ball was coming. I saw the catcher maybe tense up. I could have took the kid out if I wanted to, but I kind of grazed him. It wasn't, in my eyes, intentional. From what I saw, I guess have should have slid. Next time, I'll slide." Morgan's had a rough week. He was suspended for throwing a ball in the stands , was picked off first base in a game Friday night, moved to eighth in the order for Saturday and benched Sunday.

Cpt shake I don't know what game you were at but if you were in philly when nyjer was jawing with  fans in the stands then THREW (no lob) the ball at them and hit a bystander and say that happens all the time then you're just as wrong as he was. I take offense to being called an idiot and loser. I wasn't at the Cards game but if his manager says it was unprofessional I'll take his word for it before I'll take yours.
As for nyjers hussle explain the play earlier in the year when he missed the fly ball and threw down his glove and had a tatrum while the ball rolled around and the hammer had to come over and pick it up while the base runner was running the bases for an in the park homer. Funniest thing I've ever seen in a professional baseball game. Still gives me a chuckle just thinking of it. Shows me his me-me attitude. Its alright if you love him to stick up for him even when YOU are wrong but don't be calling me an idiot or loser.

The play saturday against the cards i was not at but if his own manager says it was unprofessional I'll take his word for it long before I'll take your's. As for nyjer's hussle explain the play earlier in the year when he missed the fly ball and threw his glove down and had a tantrum letting the ball roll around while the left fielder had to come over and pick it up mean time the base runner was running around the bases for an in the park homer. Funniest thing I've ever seen in a professional baseball game like something from pee wee ball. Still get a chuckle thinking about it. I don't know if you went to that game or not but it shows me his me-me attitude. If you love him so much it's fine to stick up for him but calling me an idiot and loser is unexceptable.

And we care about what Morgan has to say...

...because a leadoff-type hitter batting less than .260 who gets on base barely 30% of the time and gets caught stealing on 30% of his attempts is SO successful that he has the right to question his manager.  The PIRATES(!) willingness to let go of Morgan should tell you all you need to know about why this guy is a Willy Tavares in waiting.

I love the, "I could have took the kid out if I wanted to" comment.  How big a boy you think you are Morgan?  I got a feeling you're going to see how big a boy you are.  You better thank your stars that your mananger IS protecting you, because the one comment you got right, is that baseball players do police themselves and you're making alot of enemies with everyone in MLB when they read and see things like this.  You'll have a very short leash with the rest of the teams from hear on out.

He talks like if he had played the next day and gotten hit by a pitch, he would have taken it and calmly went to first quitely.  With his mouth, I highly doubt that.  He has a whole team to come out and save him, but ole Pudge and Dunn probably don't get out of the dugout as quick as they did in there younger and slimmer days.

Comical... take a whack at a catcher standing straight up a foot or two from the plate - which is completely open - and call it hustle, even though he forgot to touch home. I think the idea is to touch the plate, not the catcher. That's how they count runs in baseball.
