Damon 'leaning toward' staying in Detroit

Johnny Damon Johnny Damon told reporters after Monday night's game that he's leaning toward staying with the Tigers.

"My gut and everything else tells me Detroit's the place for me," Damon told reporters (via's Jason Beck's Twitter ).

Now, Damon has said recently he likes the Tigers and would prefer to stay with the team. However, he said he could return to Detroit as a free agent even if he were traded.

"I could still come back here next season," Damon told the Detroit News on Friday.

That was when it was an abstract --- Monday he was claimed by the Red Sox and he can invoke his no-trade clause to reject a deal to Boston.

It seems, though, he got his feelings hurt by Boston fans when he left the Red Sox to sign with the Yankees and maybe that's keeping him away.

At least one Red Sox, David Ortiz, said he'd call Damon and try to talk him into coming, so that could still happen (he has until Wednesday to decide), but I'm not sure I'd put any cash on it.

You must have forgotten about all your juice heads!!! Sheffield, Kevin Brown, Andy Petite, Clemens, A-Roid, Nick Swishy, etc.
Your team just WASTES more money and can only win 1 Championship???? With all the money spent NYY should win every year??????

You are still bitter about the biggest CHOKE in baseball history!!!!

Now we all know that they had help.........biggest choke = not so much because your whole team was on some of the names on that's obvious........*2004 and *2007! ouch

mezeke -

Are u serious dude? the red sox got plenty of money to pay players. Their decision if they want to or not. They obviously felt that damon wasnt worth the money, and they won afterward without him so maybe they were right. Ya know for a team with the second largest market  invilids do a lot of trash talking. Why dont u get off ur high horse and stop complaining that damon may not be that stupid to play for the sux.

Maybe he knows he's got more of a chance of winning if he stays on the tigers. ha.

"The Red Sox win either way. If he decides to come to Boston he gives them a solid option at the top of the order, if he stays in Detroit they have prevented him from going to Tampa Bay or the Yankees. That may have been the goal in the first place."

They win either way except in the standings, which is the most important part.  Theres always next year for the bosox.

Curtis Granderson is uncomfortable around women.  Men are more his type.

The Saux could use a spark right about now...I say bring him on. They may not have the pitching to make a run deep into the playoff. For us true Saux fans out there...make it a fun stretch by getting JD back in the uniform he belongs in

If it was called the Steinbrenner report (as Mitchell is/was an owner of the Sox), and only listed Red sox and no Yankees on the report everyone would've cried foul.  Somehow going the opposite direction isn't the same?
