Mets wanted longer Rodriguez suspension

Did you think a two-game suspension sounded a little light after Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez was charged with beating up his girlfriend's father?

Turns out the Mets did, too.

A source tells the New York Daily News that team brass told Rodriguez they had hoped to suspend him longer. Punishments are determined in collaboration between the team, league and Players Association. The union apparently blocked a longer suspension, providing another example of why it's got way too much power and not enough concern for how it is perceived by the public.

Rodriguez is set to rejoin the team Saturday.

Mets wanted longer Rodriguez suspension

The Mets wanted MLB to suspend Rodriguez longer so they wouldn't have to pay him.  They weren't/aren't taking a stand for what they think is right.  If they think Rodriguez should be suspended longer they can send him home anytime they want,  they'll just have to pay him.

Actually yes, the Phillies have developed a catcher. Carlos Ruiz is one of the top signal callers in all of baseball. On a team with the bats the Phillies have it isn't necessary to have a Victor Martinez type hitter. That being said Ruiz still gets clutch hit after clutch hit. With a comment like that, your reputation is clearly earned.

Hey so what if the union does object? Let those criminal enablers appeal. See ya in court.

If the Mets were in first place their fans would not even care what he did.

I don't care too much for what he did either, because I have not heard the other facts of the incident which is being kept from the public.

What did his father in-law do/say to provoke him is what I would like to know.

You know sometimes crap happens where one person may have done something like make a threat and make some physically threatening body movement, or get up in his face in a disorderly manner. Cases like that are you going to allow yourself to be endangered/threatened? No, but unfortunately sometimes only the person who beats the other persons ass is the one who is caught and not the person who actually started the problem.

Until they come with the facts on why he did it I'm not going to bash K-Rod.

I agree it is a joke, but don't blame the players union.  They are just doing thier job.  If the Mets had wanted a 3 hour suspension, the Players Union would have demanded a 2 hour suspension.  They are there to defend the players, and they are extremely good at it because they are so powerful.  The only way this changes is to break the union at the next CBA, and there is no way the PU would ever give up power.

HE COMMITTED AN A MISDAMEANOR. HOW DOES LARUSSA AND BAKER GET THE SAME SUSSPENSION. ITS A COMPLETE JOKE.THIS IS WORSE THEN A PLAYER USING STEROIDS AND THEY GET 50 GAME SUSPENSIONS. I DONT KNOW WHERE YOUR FOM BUT ITS NOT OK TO PHYICALLY ASSAULT SOMEONE AND SEND THEM TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE YOUR COACH DIDNT ASK FOR YOUR HELP. ASSUALTING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING IS BY FAR WORSE THAN INJECTING STEROIDS OR ANY OTHER SUSSPENSION THAT HEPPENED RECENTLY. JJJJJJOOKKKEEEEEEEEEEEE

no matter what u think that justifies what he did is acceptable. If this happened in the bronx u would see much worse. There is no excuse for this big baby. its not the first time he threw a temper tandrom except this time he physically injured someone in front of other players and their families. Oh and the person he assualted was his children mothers father. He is a complete loser and his ego is bigger than queens county. Another Omar and picked free agent. The Mets need a front office shakup to get rid of these morons. How this is worse than a player failing a drug test is unreal. He physically assaulted a man in front of many people and sent him to the hospital and he gets 2 games LMAO. I guess what Tony Larussa and Dusty Baker did deserved the same right ???????? WHAT A JOKE

First of all, could you please not refer to my team as the Muts? That's just crude and disrespectful. Try being more creative in your trash talking. Secondly, Josh Thole is going to be a solid catcher for years. Ya gotta bring 'em up from the minors sooner or later. Have the Phils developed a catcher recently? Also, Ike Davis is a very solid Rookie of the Year candidate.
