Teixeira not on Yankees' trip

Mark Teixeira wasn't on the team's flight to Texas after Monday's game against the Red Sox. Instead, he's sticking behind in New York to be with his wife and the birth of their third child.
Teixeira's wife is due Tuesday, when the Yankees open a two-game series against his former team, the Rangers. After that, the Yankees head to Kansas City for four games. Teixeira told the Star-Ledger 's Marc Craig he didn't know how many games -- if any -- he'd miss.
"This is not an exact science," Teixeira said.
Yankee manager Joe Girardi said the team would deal with the situation when they have to deal with it.
Teixeira is hitting .259/.369/.498 with 25 homers and 84 RBI and .319/.426/.659 in the last 30 days. With Teixeira out, it would seem obvious Lance Berkman would take his place. Berkman has struggled a bit in his short time since coming to New York in a trade, hitting .185/.241/.259 in pinstripes. However, he'll be going to a place he's enjoyed playing -- Texas' Rangers Ballpark. There, Berkman is hitting .284/.392/.532 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in 29 games in his career.
